does it change the point ?
Drastically. A dude with 50 dodge balls can't kill, or even remotely stop, a grown man in his tracks rushing him, now a dude with a semi-out rifle with a bump stock. . . well his odds of not only stopping you in your tracks but also killing you go way up. It was a pointless analogy

On the very video we all watched, SEVERAL transmissions came across from fellow officers down in the line of fire - active line of fire - with shot victims.
Okay? They were able to overcome their natural instincts. Not everyone can.

Why didn't they all just stand down, too? They knew less about the shooter than stairway baw. But they went in. That's what they do. Well, some.
Because they were able to overcome their natural instincts. Some can. Some can’t. Training will never dictate who can and can’t overcome their natural instincts.

You can plan and train all you want man. All. You. Want. No training will prepare you to overcome your natural instincts.

Was the Parkland cop doing the same, not able to overcome his natural instincts?
Your point is that he had absolutely no way through his natural insticts. I disagree. I'll give most police especially a training officer with 9 or more years of street experience more than you are.
I think this guy mostly chose not to engage. I think he has a wife and kids on his mind, I think he wanted to live. I think he didn't want to chance the automatic fire. I think this was a choice, more than natural instincts.
Can you blame the guy? Not really at all. Is he a coward? As a normal guy, no. As a cop that was needed to save lives, yes he was.

Is your point to defend this cop or to generalize life? What is your stance here?
This is about consequences of his actions that caused an unknown nymber of but seemingly unnecessary amount of casualties.
Just to get it on record: you think it's ok what you saw. Because his department Chief certainly doesn't.

That not everyone is able to overcome their natural instincts and it’s impossible to screen out those who can from those who can’t until they’re forced into such a situation where they have to.

And what should the consequence be?

Why would I be okay with it? He failed to do his duty. I just disagree with saying he’s a pussy and all that shite because, quite frankly, if any of us were in his position, the vast majority would have done the same.
Casting stones in glass houses and all that jazz.

Well, if he had a way through his natural insticnts. His natural instincts wouldn’t have won.

You realize self preservation is kind of a cornerstone of your natural instincts..

I do agree with this 100% though. We do hold these men to a higher standard and theoretically they should be able to pass the litmus test of being able to overcome their natural instincts or not. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to screen for.

I believe he completely spaced and at that point 15 minutes might have well have been 15 seconds

Paddock, 64, shot through the doorway, firing at officers, Lombardo said. A SWAT team broke down the door to the hotel room. "
Pretty sure if any of those officers/security guards would have attempted to go in the room they would have been shot immediately. He had a camera on the other side of the door and shot at the swat team as they were entering.

What I mean is the consequence of dicking around for 20 total minutes was who knows how many more took bullets below.
He did nothing. Not even go to the floor's door and take a peek. Nothing. Sure, no one here thinks he's going to go in like he's Buford T. Pusser but good Lord. Pop a round into something. Anything to distract. Anything would help.

I agree. I do. It really sucks that he wasn’t able to overcome his natural instincts. Anything is better than nothing. But there’s no way to screen for that beforehand.
How do you know at hire that 9 years later this dude would freeze? You can’t and you don’t. It’s just a harsh reality.

I don't think that's true, I thought when the Swat team arrived he had killed himself already? I believe he shot at the security guard who was there very early on. Then the cops came and did nothing, then the swat team.
Actually yes, he had stopped shooting and the swat team waited for awhile because it was quiet and they were worried about a bomb. But I don't think they ever were shot at, I could be wrong though.
But hell, of course they should have expected shots back.
Worst case, they open some rooms next to him and hide in there while 1 guy goes and opens the door.

Kind of strange that the footage doesn’t show the cart in front of the door, which I believe the gunman positioned there, with video equipment hidden under a plate so he could see if anyone was outside the room. I think it’s fake. At any rate, anyone would be terrified thinking they might die at any moment. How does the cop/s know whether there are more than one gunman in the room. Anyway, it’s a fake video.

I know, right? They get off the elevator, sneak down the hall on Floor 31 a little bit and poof, not a sign of the cart. Huge mistake by the producers...
