If we applied the same standard to Wade and Bosh today then both wouldn’t even be in the NBA at this late time in their prospective careers.

I'm not comparing, I'm saying that's the modern origin of great players ring chasing.
As I posted above, both Payton and Malone were coming of 20 ppg seasons. Payton was an all star the previous year. They weren't washed up bench guys ring chasing.
