Aim precisely, so when you miss you still hit the larger target.

I always thought it was sort of dumb too, TBH

Its actually some of the best shooting advice you can get. If you are trying to hit a person and you aim at a button on his shirt you may not hit the button but it will be a much more accurate shot then if you simply aim at the whole person. The smaller the target you aim at the more accurate you are.
