We were number 6 the other day simply by adding two players. Stingley and Parrish. The rankings matter to some degree but not near as much as people think if your staff is getting who they want, instead of who is left over. We are picking the guys that we believe can get the job accomplished at a high level or at the very least have that ability to do so, with some training, strength and conditioning.
Some kids have already got the size but not as much upside. Some kids have the maturity and smarts on the field but also have the skills to perform how we need them to perform, after their bodies are ready.
There are so many variables which aren't taken into account with recruiting rankings and so they're most definitely flawed but also give us an idea of what type of team we might have. Anyone in the top 25 regularly can do amazing things with the right QB and surrounding cast. To win a championship you should probably be top 10 regularly.
LSU will have plenty of talent if we keep landing class's while filling needs like we have been since 2017 albeit missing on a QB and CB in 2018 but followed up with getting some depth in the offseason. You can nit pick all you like but the results will speak for themselves.
Does LSU have blue chip players throughout its roster? Check.
Does LSU have depth? We have more than we've had recently.
Does LSU have a dominant defense? Check
Does LSU have a decent QB? We aren't quite sure but have a good idea.
Does LSU have a good staff. Many are proven but we still have some who have to prove themselves, which shouldn't be the case at LSU but at the moment, that's the case.
Does LSU have good STs? Most think it can be better in 2018 but we'll have to see.
There are lots of questions on this team which goes to show you how depleted we were before. Since this staff has taken over, I've seen a major improvement on how we recruit altogether while also admitting that they can learn from past mistakes at the same time. Don't let those same things happen twice.
We still have some major recruits to fall like Sopsher, Cain, Emory, Byron, Parker, Starks Lee and Palmer. Still need to get a LT, multiple DL and multiple LB. When we do that we'll be in great shape with this 2019 class. GT
