Let me play devils advocate here. Davis hasn't signed his extension yet, but tears his knee at the end of the year. Do you think the team backs off the contract? Wouldn't Davis be pissed if all of a sudden they lowballed him on a contract? What franchise level player wouldn't be pissed.

Like I said, I'm not a Cousins fan. But he has history, in his mind, with team's messing him over on money. Just two years ago, he had the max given and taken right back away from the Kings. He comes here and you don't believe he ever discussed his contract situation or wasn't given any assurances. That is dillusional. Maybe they try to walk it back or negotiate it somehow. But he is going to be pissed. I don't blame him..

First, that's a different situation. AD is 1A, Cuz is 1B. Different rules may apply. I say may apply because what you just outlined is what appears to be happening in San Antonio with Kawhi. It sure looks like the Spurs have decided not to offer the Super Max to Kawhi based largely on a situation arising out of an injury.

So? He can be pissed and self centered and pouty and still like his teammates and coach and still want to help them win rather than being a little bitch on the bench. Nobody is arguing that he should be happy about his market price, we're just saying it seems very likely that his market price has changed. I'd imagine the team would give him multiple offers of differing lengths. If Boogie is so sure he's being slighted take the shorter "prove it" deal and get paid faster if he's going to come back.

ok lets back up...

1) the kings never "offered" the DPE extension. they hemmed and hawed about it, but it was never on the table and before they had to decide, they traded him for a bag of pretzels

2) in the days leading up to the trading deadline, cousins' camp/agent made it crystal clear that cousins would NOT be re-signing with any team that traded for him...full stop.

now, surely the pels brass discussed with cousins, at length, they they had every intention of offering him a new contract once he expired. and yes, i am certain that discussion centered on that contract being the full max he was eligible for. i am just as certain that those discussions included the team's insistence that boogie be worthy of that contract when the time came...and right now, he's not. sucks for him,. but it is true
