So a long time popular professional golfer intentionally cheats on national tv in a major golf tournament and some of you don't think there is anything wrong with it? Golf is a game of honor and respect for the rules.

Before you respond to try to correct my use of the word, "cheater", you should know that the definition of a cheater, according to Websters, is "a person who acts dishonestly in order to gain an advantage." PM admitted on national TV that he engaged in his activity to gain an advantage. It was bush league and he should have been DQ'ed.

What if his push putt, which was hit while the ball was in motion, went in the hole? I realize he got a 2 shot penalty, but would that have counted?

Why wait until the ball is 3 feet past the hole, what if he tapped it right behind the hole?

What if his caddie intentionally stopped the ball with his foot just 6 inches from the hole?

What if he stopped a moving ball before it was about to go in the water or a hazard? A 2 stroke penalty might be better than a water ball penalty depending upon the drop zone.

There are so many things wrong with what he did. The only comforting thought, when the PGA and the R&A change or clarify the rule (which I believe they will do), the new rule will be called the Mickelson rule to remind us of the arse that he made of himself in the US Open.

Here is a link to an SI article that echos my sentiments.

And the rule is a 2 shot penalty, which he was assessed. He even reached out to he USGA to see about whether he should be disqualified, and they said no.

To me no different than an intentional foul or intentional pass interference. Yes, you are knowingly breaking the rules, but strategically, it makes sense in the situation. You take the penalty and move on. If the penalty is not right, change the rules.

As if your hypothetics and general whining weren't enough...

This is how I know that you don't know what you are talking about. The PGA (of America) has nothing to do with the US Open and the rules that govern it. The USGA will not change or "clarify" the rule because it is already in place and clarified. There is a penalty defined for the action which he was aware of and willing to take for carrying out said action. Chances are it cost him a shot or two in the long run and who knows, he could've holed the next shot and in that hypothetical it cost him 4.

Golf's experts talk about the rules being there to help you every time someone drops away from a sprinkler or a cart path or uses some obscure rule for relief or claims they're going to hit a 50 yd cut and the tv tower is in the way. You don't get to pick and choose when you can use the rules to your advantage and when you cannot. Either the rules are there to be used and followed with penalties for breaches (which he incurred) or every bit of relief makes you a "cheater". Pick one.

Terrible post in every possible way. There is literally nothing wrong with what he did.

Just to point out one of the dumber aspects of your terrible post,

This is contemplated by the rules as well. Guess what? DQ. It's not a stroke. You are dumb.
