Heading to OB in a couple weeks and staying at Caribe. Thinking of walking across street and doing a little fishing under the Pass bridge early in the am before the crowds show up. Anyone ever do this and any tips? I know and don’t expect anything like fishing GI but just looking for a little fun with my two boys.

Slip cork with a croaker/shrimp. Plenty of redfish and trout there (and tons of other things to entertain a son), but have to hit it super early before your 200 best friends and boats come by.

Let me know if the boat is still wrecked on the rocks. Dude crashed into it Tuesday morning at 2am drunk. Was still there yesterday when I left.

REALLY? Wasn’t expecting redfish and/or trout! Was going to hit it at sunrise just for a couple hours at most.

Also, where’s the best place to get live bait? Does the marina right there next door to Caribe have it?

Something like this seems to happen every year when I’m there. It’s a shame!

Fishing from the beach will be tougher; they (mainly trout) generally hang around the north side, near the middle. But there are tons of fish there - drum, flounder, sharks, ladyfish, hardtail, etc.

Take a bucket and go walking on the beach late afternoon, try to catch some sand fleas.

The pompano are in the surf and love them

Family stays at the caribe every summer. Honestly there is a dock on property you can fish off of that’s plenty fine. Drop shot fresh shrimp about a foot off the bottom. Get some fresh shrimp from Publix and makes a world of difference. Make sure you have weight to keep it on bottom. You want current to catch but it can run through there hard. Always fish at night so we don’t roast and after little ones go to bed.

Went with my in laws this year to grand point by the rock Jettie on the pass and destroyed some Spanish mackerel on silver Johnson spoon with a treble hook trailer jigging it almost like a worm. Never had luck in the surf. Hope that helps.

Mole crabs is what they're called. Easy to catch, just show a kid and turn them loose.

And once I catch these sand fleas do I either put them 3 ft under a popping cork or on bottom Carolina rigging?

Ill be the first to say it: the fishing sucks in the Pass from the bank. We do bi-annual trips there. The only luck you will have is from the rock jetties at arse crack of dawn. 30 mins after sunrise and you might as well pack up. The boat traffic and fishing pressure doesnt help. 1 hour after sunrise and you will catch a drunk wader before a desirable keeper fish. Its not your lawn chair, beer in hand kind of surf fishing.

Of course this doesnt help if you dont have a boat but there are several reefs and artificial reefs in the immediate area. Also the locals tell me trolling around the big bouy is very productive, but you need to be courtesy and give right of way to other vessels.
