Looking to buy a new vehicle within the next month or two.
Down to a 6 speed manual Tacoma or 4WD SR5 premium 4Runner.
Rarely go off road, haul or tow anything, looking for a good reliable daily driver that will last 10+ years.
Seeking pros and cons of both based on your experiences.

Why would you get 4WD if you never go off-road?

Seems legit.
I'd say the 4runner. More space.

Do you need a truck? If so get the truck. If not get SUV. What's your family situation look like? If you have kids and dont need a truck for work, your family would definitely be more comfortable in the suv.

I agree really don't need 4WD but would help with resale at some point. The six speed manual on the Tacoma is only available with 4WD Sport or Off-Road editions.

Will also decrease MPG, possibly more maintenance depending on how long you keep it, etc.

2wd Toyota will hold it's value fine

Had a 2002 Chevy truck just recently sold. It was a third vehicle. Mainly used for Home Depot or Lowes runs. Married with one teenager so passenger space is not a big concern.

If you really plan on keeping it for 10+ years having 4WD is probably not much of a difference when it comes to resale

Of those 2 options I would go with the Tacoma though. Not a big fan of the new 4Runner body

Not a big enough factor for me to include 4WD.

Also, why a manual transmission?

Ah gotcha. Well I'd get the truck. Too many times I only had a car available and thought, "Damn, this shite would be a lot easier if I had a truck."

Just miss having a manual transmission vehicle. They are more fun to drive to me after driving an auto for the last 15 years.

My friend from N.O recently picked up an 18' 4Runner from Tampa. $5K off any 4Runner at that dealership.

Do you happen to frequently compose telegrams as part of your work?

This is my thinking, also. Really don't need a truck except for the 5 times a year it comes in handy. Never owned a SUV before and worry about missing the ease of hauling something in a truck.

Fair enough. Driving a manual has always been more of a pain in the arse to me than fun.

If you don’t need 4WD why not look at a Highlander?
