I've only been to the VA once with my now late father-in-law who was a WWII vet and they treated him like a king, and it was good to see the level of service they provided him on that visit.
He was needing to use a walker, one of those that had a seat built into it and he got tired walking so I had him sit down and pushed him the rest of the way. The young lady that helped us asked if he had a wheelchair for times like this and I told her no.
She immediately requested a wheelchair and had it fitted for him and then ordered a motorized chair, lift to be fitted in the bed of his pickup and an aluminum handicap ramp to be installed at his son's house in Hammond where he was living at the time since he couldn't live alone.
They came out within a week and installed the lift to the bed of the pickup truck and also the handicap ramp to the house. I have nothing but praise for the service he got.
I'm really sorry to hear that some folks are being treated so badly and, unfortunately, those doing so are in a gov. job and are hard to get rid of once on the job.
