The harvesting team, transport team, hospital, the doctors all make FORTUNES doing one of these procedures.

When they include my beneficiaries in the money, I will agree to it.

ETA: Sorry for the loss of your dad, Paige and he did a genuinely nice thing.

They make fortunes off of every other procedure as well. That gonna stop you from going to the hospital for treatment when you’re sick?

Thank bullfrog

I really can’t understand your sentiment tho. Everyone makes money doing their job, especially doctors

Why not help save lives? And bring some comfort to your loved ones

Nobody will ever accuse you of being nice.

Just...no. The harvesting team, transport team, and doctors are all part of the 2 participating hospitals. There is no "commission bonus" for organ transplants for any staff. The hospitals bill for the procedures, true, but do you realize how much work is done on the patient during the post surgical global period where they are paid for NOTHING? How many of these procedures have complications post-op? Rejections, failed auto-immune therapy, co-morbidity complications.

I never worry about physicians going overboard to procure an organ. I worry about them PASSING on a good organ due to liability and patient risk factors. Profitable transplant programs are profitable b/c they pick and choose recipients with more scrutiny than their governing body advises, limiting complications and rejections so as to spend less in the post-op global period. The average transplant program is far less profitable than the downstream services that transplant patient will eventually end up in.

I don't see why you're not allowed to sell them.

May or may not be true. Also may or may not be true that they are more willing to let someone go if they are an organ donor. Regardless, the fact this belief exists demonstrates a severe failure in the healthcare industry.
