Cam Sanders should be the Sunday guy this weekend

Over the last couple of weeks Cam Sanders has made a ton of progress in terms of his consistency with his command. He has the most electrifying stuff of current active pitchers. Yes, we are talking a relatively small sample size in terms of this alleged improvement but when he is on, his stuff is lights out. His wicked Jekyll and Hyde tendencies that were present early in the season seem to be fading. His dropoff now seems more gradual and predictable. His fastball, curve, and changeup offer more of a problem to hitters than a less than fully healthy Hilliard with only 2 pitches in his bag of tricks. Unless that 3200 RPM curve is at 100% he becomes just another average pitcher with a lower speed fastball. If Sanders can go five, with Fontenot, Beck, Gilbert, and Peterson available, the Tigers will be hard to compete with. I definitely don't want to see Caleb Gilbert starting an elimination game or any game for that matter. None of this is a stretch.

how many of those appearances have been starts?

I've decided it's best if Coach Dunn and Coach Mainieri make the decision who to start this weekend.

3-4 starts early in the season the rest were outta the pen

Yep, it's possible that they stumble out the gate and need him just to survive game 2, but I am thinking we win Friday. If we lose Friday, we will not need to worry about Sunday.

You are right. I couldn't agree with you more. I am surprised nobody has upvoted this yet.

Heres your ideal situation.
Busch gives you 5, and you jump out to a big lead. Don't need Peterson or Fontenot for more than an inning each. Don't need Sanders at all.
Game 2- Hess gives you 7, 8 or 9 of dominating stuff. Peterson/Fontenot an inning each.
Game 3- Hillard, if he is ready. If not Sanders, Beck, whatever is left.
That's a perfect scenario, that likely won't play out. You have to play it one game at a time and then piece it together as you survive at this point.

right. some people are better suited to come out of the pen. its better if they show up to the park not knowing if they are going to pitch or not. knowing you are starting a week in advance may give some guys too much to think about and they dont handle starting as well as coming out of the pen. he's been lights out recently doing what hes doing. changing that may screw him up.

How many years does he have left at LSU?

He's a Juco guy and we will be lucky to have him back next year.

He will be back. Hes too small still. He needs to fill out before he will stand a chance in the minors, or especially the majors. Hes like 170/175lbs

Yep, he and his father made it very clear from the get-go they're looking for him to 1) improve and 2) be highly drafted. Well he's on fire right now. Most want to strike while the iron's hot.

Lol, he will not be getting drafted high at 170lbs
Strike while the iron is hot? He is on an upward trajectory but I would hardly say scouts are looking at him like we need this guy right now.
He keeps improving and puts on some weight, NEXT year will be his year.

Then why did he get drafted last year? Did he lose weight this year or something?

This is not like the NFL draft. Why is this so hard of a concept for some people here to grasp?

I thought we were talking about him being drafted highly.
He was drafted in the 18th round. I would not call that being drafted highly. He was mostly drafted even there because of who his father is. He does not yet have a strong body of work to merritt higher AND he needs to add weight.

Where was that mentioned? There were no qualifiers.

Not really how the draft works.

He touches mid 90s and has a hammer curve. He performed in one of the top couple JUCO leagues in the country for 2 years. He proved his stuff multiple times over the course of the very heavily scouted SEC tournament. There is enough there to get him drafted and get him a good bonus.
How much he weighs is absolutely immaterial.
