Why do the plants prohibit cameras and cell phones (that have picture/video capabilities)?

I tried Googling, but couldn’t find much information.

In addition to no phones, our facilities have been smoke free since 2012.

Same thing at UPS.

They claimed it was for security reasons...but it was fine for management

Technically you can have them in some places at buildings along the perimeter, but once you get in the units, it's a no go for everyone. It's considering a LSR at most facilities.

Just deal with it and follow the rules. Don't be one of the stupid baws caught posting pics from up on a vessel or inside of something that you think looks neat.

If you think about it, there really is no upside to allowing people to film shite in a private facility. There are lots of folks circling industrial sites just looking for a pic or a piece of footage to misconstrue for their own benefit.

That is a good point-probably don’t want people knowing which safety codes are being violated and stuff.

I did think about the proprietary information thing, but then I thought that pretty much every company has stuff they want to keep under locks, but many don’t have the “no phones” rule.

Thanks for the info, y’all.

Security and a large distracting device when attention to detail is of the most importance.

I think it’s dumb. People are going to bring their phones in no matter what. I’m not gonna be away from my phone. Emergencies happen. I don’t give a shite what your policy is.

I don't think anyone in any plant would make a rule like that in order to intentionally prevent you from having communications in an emergency. What they want is for you not to be fricking around on your phone instead of paying attention to your job.

Just a matter of control. Hands = no go for phones. Everyone else, perfectly fine.

Fair point, but regardless of why they make the rule, they are preventing you from having communications in an emergency

And they will can your scaffold building arse with the quickness.

Seriously, make sure your company has all the emergency contacts lined up and if your family truly has an issue, your management should be able to reach you by radio.
