I've yet to hear of a story of a school shooter having to shoot their way into a school to kill anyone.
Sandy Hook actually had some semblance of security. The doors were all locked on the outside. The shooter had to take out a window with his rifle. So, I guess bulletproof glass is the next step.

Then that's one...and it seems like an anomaly. I appreciate the info.
But it does seem very clear that we're making it incredibly easy for these things to happen by virtue of allowing them to be the softest of soft targets in the vast majority of cases.
My son's elementary school had the obligatory GUN FREE ZONE sticker on the front door...and then absolutely no security anywhere. In fact, if you turned left instead of right upon entering you could just walk right into the school without even passing on front of the office, and even if you turned right no one in there would have likely gotten up off their arse to find out who you were. If I did not understand that my son was far more in danger driving around in a car than he is at school this would have bothered me greatly.
My humble opinion...address the glaring lack of security in schools first and see how that works BEFORE attempting to disarm all of America to solve this problem.
If that doesn't fix it at all, back to the drawing board. If it fixes it some but causes others, again...readdress. but...unless the endgame is to remove all firearms from the country addressing this issue from that angle makes no actual sense if the goal is protecting children now.

Sandy Hook
The Sandy Hook shooting is an anomaly.
As far as I can recall it is the only school shooting in which the shooter was not a current or former student.
And it was an elementary school.
And he shot his way into the school.
And many of the Sandy Hook parents have coincidentally been at other mass shootings over the years.
Just kidding on the last one.
