Its the parents fault for raising him so poorly.
What they should do is pay for him to go on a two week cruise with one of them.
The parent that stays gets power of attorney and short sells the house for 75% of its value with a contingency that it must close in less than 2 weeks.
Take the money and buy a smaller 1 bedroom house and don't let the squatter come inside.
Profit.

Possible legality issues aside, this is retarded. They’d lose thousands.

What are they expecting to gain from this?
A spare room, lower food and utility bills, but mainly some much needed peace and quiet.
They may even gain a self sufficient son if he ever gets it.

You know the mom keeps slipping him a key.

You know what you did!
Ok put me done for no clue either.

Parents probably don't even recognize their complicity in his behavior, or have and have decided to take these actions.
However, I am hoping this doesn't end in tragedy

He should claim to be retarded. Then the courts won't touch him.

How is illegal for me to sell my own house?

Short sighted of you.
They lose thousands each month paying for his sorry azz. Better to lose 25 grand all at once and get him off the payroll for good.

Does anyone know the law on putting the house up for sale and then moving? Like not the scenario you said where he's out of town or whatever. But if the parents give him a formal eviction notice and then they sell their house and move, does he automatically get rights to their new home too? Or can they now get him arrested for trespassing?

I didn’t say that. But depending on the state, it’s not just as easy as sell and your problem is gone. You’d probably need a 30 day notice of the sale for one. Then if he’s a real dick, he could tie them up with quit claim deeds just to slow it all down.

I highly doubt it. That would just be absurd frivolous spending.

Assuming they only have $100k in equity.

30 day notice of what and to whom? Does he have a signed lease? Is he making renters payments?
I am seriously confused.

Squatters rights. This thread is an example of someone taking advantage of them.
If they could just sell the house in a week while he’s gone, they could just as easily just kick him out in an hour.

Put his crap at the curb the next time he goes out change the locks. It’s not that hard. And it’s not illegal. The lazy arse kid isn’t paying rent and has no lease.
Clearly it is illegal since they haven't done it and are pursuing legal ways to do it.

Yeah I didn’t think of the bit you posted earlier about squatters rights. Tried to edit but wasn’t fast enough.
But honestly, I wonder what would this guy do if they did simply toss him out.

I would put a few drops of doe or skunk scent in his mattress, put an annoyatron in his room (like in a wall outlet, block his ac duct so he only gets a small fraction of the AC, etc.
What a POS he is.But dont think all adult kids who live with their parents are like this, My nephew is in the 30's (never married, no kids) and lives with his widowed mom.
he cooks, cleans, supports her in her grief and does sweet things to surprise her. I dont think he could have made it this far in her grief without him,
He is being the man of the family like that (and even before his dad died as his dad was severely disabled)
That POS ought to have to grow up and be a man and appreciate the parents he has
