Lake Charles saving the state's GDP level

Lake Charles is leading the nation in GDP growth, at 8.1% in 2017, surpassing even Silicon Valley in the large market category.

Meanwhile, the overall GDP for the state of Louisiana has shrunk for the second-straight year.
Today, Lake Charles announced the landing of a jet maintenance facility
This aviation project will create 256 jobs with an average salary of $80,000 per year. And it isn't petrochemical related, which is good for economic diversity.
I hope Lake Charles keeps it up. It's got a long way to go, but at least it's going.

No surprise. It’s one of the farthest cities from Slidell.

Are aviation mechanics allowed truck nuts? I need a ruling.

But but but Lafayette is suppose to be the talk of the town.

They install them on the back of Cesnas

They always have the cleanest tools, so I'd guess they have a lot of 3-series nuts?

Just wait till the port of Cameron is done- it will put the port of Iberia out of business completely

Am I reading this right? Oklahoma has a single metro area that didn't decline?

Lafayette's downturn has thankfully been helped by a lot of out-of-work oilfield baws commuting to Lake Charles for construction jobs. Good for them!
If the oil industry can turn around for Lafayette, then Lake Charles will have to recruit outside labor to the state to fill the job demand. Good for Lake Charles!
There's always been a see-saw between Lake Charles and Lafayette because one city is upstream, the other downstream. But, that could change, and a balance between the two would be great, and Louisiana could be stronger for it.

It's growing. That's good. Leave it at that.

I don’t think they know Br that well and don’t get out of LC much haha one time I heard someone say 500,000 people moved into LC in the last few years. I tried so hard not to laugh in their face

This isn't sustainable or permanent growth. These aren't jobs for Louisianians. These are vast majority transient skilled labor workers, and once the plants are built they will be gone, on to the next project. It's just window dressing for the politicians to spin to make it seem like our economy is better than it actually is.
ETA: You can downvote me all you want. Those billions of dollars in plant construction that is driving this growth, which is mostly Texas temporarily feeding into Louisiana, won't need all that labor once they are built, and there will be a sharp contraction. But you go on with your myopia.

Lake Charles has much better infrastructure fit to handle growth compared to other cities in the state. I love crossing over into Calcasieu and seeing the lanes go from 4 to 6. I have no clue why they didn’t do that in Iberville/WBR..

This isn't sustainable or permanent growth.
But what will be permanent is the skilled workforce that staffs these facilities with good-paying permanent jobs once they're up and running.
There are parts of this country that would love to have 20,000 temporary construction jobs that led to 10,000 spin-off permanent jobs.
Don't be such a downer.

How much of this "growth" is attributable solely to Chenier and LNG exports?
