There is no mainstream media, only corporate controlled media.

The fact is that there aren’t any NEWS stations. A NEWS station would be one anchor reporting the news of the day. No opinion, no commentary, no narrative. Just one person reporting the actual happenings of the day. All of these networks should be forced to remove NEWS from their business names after this, unless they go back to reporting news the way it should be reported.

The internet is awesome for the amount of information available to the average person. However, most of that information is either flat wrong or highly biased interpretations. It's the new society we live in and it's horrible.
I don't believe anything until it happens, and even then refuse to watch or read media interpretations. Critical thinking skills allow halfway intelligent people to form their own opinions.

There is so much LOL on both sides in this thread.
First off Hannity is a parrot. All he does is repeat stuff he has found on the internet or heard on other conservative talk shows. He has practically no original thoughts. I can agree with him on a lot of topics but what I'm really doing is agreeing with the original creators of those thoughts. The best talk radio hosts now are Eric Harley and Gerry McNamera from Red Eye radio. Unless you are a night owl their podcast is better to listen to than their actual broadcast but they are very smart and they will clearly point out when they are reporting specific news stories and when they are giving their own personal opinions on current events.
Secondly, yes there are media sources that are biased to the left and media sources that are biased to the right. However the difference is that Fox is a lot more likely to use CNN, the Washington Post, the New York Times, or MSNBC as a source than any of those are to use Fox News as a source. When other members of the media mention a story reported elsewhere in the media the majority of the time the original source is one of those four. The end result is the liberal narrative is disseminated a lot more broadly through the media than the conservative narrative is.
Lastly, yes the media did slant to the left back in the 80s but it was subtle and the news was still reported accurately for the most part. Bias back then consisted of things like Peter Jennings covering a meeting of the Senate and calling senators like Jesse Helms and Orrin Hatch "conservative Senators Jesse Helms and Orrin Hatch" while calling Ted Kennedy and Paul Wellstone just plain old Senators Ted Kennedy and Paul Wellstone instead of "liberal Senators Ted Kennedy and Paul Wellstone." Today the bias is so obvious and piled on so much it is out and out propaganda trying to be passed off as news.

The news media has become tabloid media yet they want the respect that investigative media did fairly well for what, a couple of hundred years?
Scary thing is, I don't ever see it reversing from where it is now. It will only get worse.

The Media is Broken
"Media are"
The word is plural, where the singular version is "medium."
Carry on.
What a dipshit - I consider myself a grammarian of the highest order and strive mightily to deserve that description even on a college sports message board.
I have never, ever, commented on some trivial, unambiguous, technical grammatical 'error' on here - and never intend to. Some of the grammar disappoints me, but these are not notes submitted for review.
To say "The media is - - - - " is not in fact incorrect when you take into account the CONTEXT of the statement. The statement should be read as:
The media - as a collective description of the various broadcast and print outlets purporting to be conveyors of the important news of the day - IS broken.
This is the same context as in the statement = "The USA is the world's greatest superpower."
But carry on with your hobby. Whatever floats your boat.

Truth.
Mainstream media is nothing but yellow journalism that appeals to very shallow people

Basically my situation - I refuse to allow my emotional state to be raised/lowered by the latest "BREAKING!!!" new either on the MSM or on here. I have my life's experience relative to "things said" vs "things that happened" to guide my reasoning on any breaking news item. I put a lot of stock in just who is saying what - and I have a few who have become my touchstones of honesty.
I don't doubt some of those have agenda - just as I do - but what I demand of any confidant is honesty. I don't expect Hannity or Limbaugh types to do a fair-to-both sides analysis - I do expect them to not lie or attempt to mislead me.
There does not exist an ultimate non-partisan man. We can only hope for disciplined people to do what is 'right' even if it does not further one's political desires.
I used to spend a lot of time on CNN/MSNBC (mostly MSNBC) to get the 'other side' - but they have become so obviously biased that it is a worthless exercise. I do not trust them to not lie to me constantly.
I get most of my news of interest on Tiger Droppings - rarely is there something important happening that is not addressed here - and I have my own list of posters who I trust to not be shoveling shite.
I'm lazy.

Despite being a douche, you are correct. Well that is if you lived 100 years ago.
Today when used to the entirety of broadcast, print, etc, it is used as a collective noun.
English, just like other living languages evolve.

I've given up television and most internet media. It's nothing but social programming.
All they do is tell you what they want you to believe.

I remember the tv news days when an anchor man just reported the news being made without all the guest panelists giving us opinions on that news.
Those days are history.

And I'm enjoying the hell out of it. - I have had three successful careers - been a doer and goer all my life. Until the chemo took a lot of steam out of my wheels I don't ever remember taking a nap during the day.
Now I am a master at naps - wish there was an award for "best napper.' I'd be a shoo-in.

Media is broken because the Democrat party is broken.
They are one in the same.
Imagine a D POTUS bringing peace to NK, record low BLACK unemployment, record low UE benefits being doled out, etc. I could go on and on.
The media would be on fire today in a different way.
Everything they are discussing now is just a distraction because the Democrats have nothing left.

Correct, it was closer to true journalism. Media now is nothing but yellow journalism.
