Is that right statistically? I’ve used that argument, and some math dude called me on it. Gamblers fallacy, I think he said.

In a vacuum, you’re correct. Statistically, a major mishap doesn’t make flying safer in and of itself.

But what usually happens is that airlines will ground their fleets, do extra inspections, additional crew training, etc, which makes flying a little safer after immediately after a mishap.
