Been when I was a kid because we were poor. Looking for weekend getaway. Anything there to do?

It's a nice little getaway.
Of course all the tourist type stuff but it is a nice little area for outdoor type adventures.

Plenty of nice golf courses, can catch some trout on Lake Taneycomo, Big Cedar Lodge is pretty cool, Silver Dollar City. Not bad for a weekend trip

Silver Dollar City, Lakes, Big Cedar, Outlet Mall, Downtown/Landing, Go carts, Amuesment Rides, Goofy Shows.
30 Mins north to Springfield where there will be more dining choices and pretty decent town. Crime has went up the last few years, but still a pretty solid town with Bass Pro and the Mall on Battlefield.
2 hours to Fayetteville where you could do a lot more
40 Mins to Eureka Springs, AR
You would be in the Ozarks so, many options to do if your family would want to go on trails, rivers or caves as well.
I used to live in Harrison, AR which is 30 min south of Branson on MO/AR state line. Was there as a military recruiter, so I know the area pretty well.
Also Iirc, College of the Ozarks (Work Hard U) does a pretty good lunch and dinner. And thats 10 mins south of Branson in Hollister, MO.

Great suggestion for them. I didnt want to go too indepth with the other towns, just point out locations.
I feel branson is cheesy, and you could do a lot more things in that area that are cheaper and better memories.
Take the kids and float the buffalo. I mean there are tons of things in that area that you can do.
But I do hope others will chime in with ideas. I miss the Ozarks.

Call Bill Babler and get a guided bass trip on Table Rock. Also check out Dogwwod Canyon. I'm headed up for our annual trip on Friday for a week of fishing. Love it up there.

Branson restaurants offer a discount to people who aren’t senior citizens.

If you make the trip I would also recommend taking the short drive to Springfield and checking out the Wonders of Wildlife museum and aquarium at Bass Pro. Amazin place. No expenses spared.

We go there when LSU plays at R-Kansas. I will give it the thumbs up.

Doesn’t sound any different than Branson in general so no big deal?

The concept of that college is pretty freaking cool.

The museum at the Ozarks college is pretty good. Lots of good stuff

I love the Silver Dollar City stuff. I could just sit there and people watch. I'm amazed at the volume of city folks that have no idea about any of that old lifestyle. I swear it is like some of them are looking at aliens. I like to do that and stay at a decent place with a nice view of the mountains or the lake. That is a pretty relaxing weekend for me. I don't care anything about the shows. Other than that it is a generic city with Kohls & Applebees & Best Buy and crap like that.

CAnt believe Branson just turned down $500 million water park project. Hot springs should be calling those developers
