No one is going to make a direct military strike on the mainland. Terrorism, maybe.
Regardless of our “fixing”, no one wants to frick with the US.
And BTW, when America isn’t fixing the worlds problems, groups like Isis form and start doing heinous shite to defenseless people. Just like Syria using chemical weapons or some third world leader acquiring a nuke and becoming a real threat, AMERICA has to stay involved to protect its own safety ( and the safety of others).
I’m not fond of it, but that’s the role you assume as a super power.

I agree it’s in the best interest of the US to help smaller countries that cannot themselves but to be so dismissive at the mere prospect of a US mainland attack is not smart. An intelligent enemy exploits your weaknesses and ignorance to defeat you.
