Not on the scale of the political forum. That place is reprehensible.

My biggest regret is buying plane tickets before coming to this forum. I hava a choice of writing off £500 or having to visit America for at least part of my trip.

The thought of having to be polite and courteous to hotel staff, restaurant staff is already winding me up. I will just have this forum on my mind.

I just want to visit Canada now.

FWIW, It's doubtful you'd experience any of the vitriol spewed on the Political Board here to your face, especially in the bigger cities in the US. Most of that mindset is limited to smaller cities and rural areas.

I get the sentiment, but most of the big US cities are pretty liberal and welcoming of international travelers, especially white ones from Europe.

That's you're own personality flaw. And it's weak to try and blame it on others. The poliboards generalizations are bigoted but yours are rational? Is that what you're telling yourself? Probably don't even see the irony, do you?

See, OP. We all love to generalize.

So if I go to England I don't have to be polite and courteous to staff?

Good idea. You can be a total arse to the staff in places and they love it.

I may be missing something, but you sound deluded. You've been here 3 times yet now you are wound up about coming again because of some message board?

You can't be more than 18 years old. How in the world can someone drop that kind of money and planning and then suddenly cancel their plans due to an internet forum regarding another country's politics? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?

I wouldn't even bother going to Canada if i were you. The irony of you complaining about xenophobia and then not wanting to come to America due to a few comments is mind numbing.

Stay underneath your rock in the U.K.

And he's done his best to wind people up saying things like

"soccer is the only thing Americans know less about than music." (my paraphrase).

I don't even go to the poli board, so I can't imagine what he is saying there.

He just said:

The EU is a bigger power than the USA. And so is China.

So he's doing his best to rile people up over there with no basic facts or understanding of geopolitical powers.

Exactly.

hrryhill, I am willing to engage in conversation with anyone, and I am very interested in all things UK. But you seem to be intent on simply being difficult.

I've answered him civilly in several threads. That's not what he's looking for.

It is not even their views on politics which annoy me. It is the way they express them in such a rude, disrespectful and xenophobic manner.

I know Americans are patriotic people but FFS, every thread I open it is displayed in such a crass manner.

The thing is this forum is basically all american so who are they directing this towards? I could kind of understand if it is was an international forum with members from a lot of countries but to act like this amongst yourselves is weird as frick.

It's not weird. It is like sibling rivalry.

weird as frick.

You have a bunch of weird stuff over there. To us. Why not try to fit in?

What you are doing is like going into a UK football site set up by Liverpool fans and coming in as an Everton fan and just spewing things. I've seen those interactions. If I took them seriously I'd never want to visit Liverpool. People in the same city treating each other with contempt.

It may seem that way to you, but I strongly disagree. You began only a few posts in with the David Bowie thread.

So that makes it right to do the same thing? You come to this board acting all high and mighty but then relegate yourself to their level and complain. What about some accountability?

Take a look in the mirror.

I came to this board for advice about an LSU game.

Then all I see is that I killed a baby, my country is a shithole, and my family in the war were pussies.

Yeah, I want to give my money to a country that is represented by these people. Not.

If you are so naive that you think those people represent the other 300 million, you should stay in your country.

Actually your own city. Probably your own street.

"These people" are everywhere.

You don't address legitimate questions.

As an aside, I can't imagine why, by arguing these points, we are in some strange way trying to talk you into coming here.

I don't blame you for being a bit upset. But the world is a big place and there is a lot to see. Don't let the comments of a few allow to create generalizations of many.

Maybe if you take a more concilitory viewpoint on other forums you may find people who are more helpful.

Just because I don't like what people say or how they say it, doesn't mean I completely write them off.

Welcome to a sports forum.

People argue, talk shite, and are tribal to their "team", whether it is sports, politics, truck brand, etc.
