Phish - THE ISLAND TOUR - 20 years today
It was 20 years ago today Trey Anastasio and the boys came to play with one of their most revered runs ever. Coming off the simply LEGENDARY phall 1997 tour, the band couldn't sit still and booked a 4 night run in the NYC metro which was to be filled with that deep philthy funk the band had been mastering along with a preview of their more layered & ambient work that was to come in the following years. Pound for pound one of the best runs in Phistory.
Highlights:
4.2.98 Tube - LINK The tour kicks off right back into DAS FUNK
4.2.98 Twist - LINK for many THE jam of the run, a swirling psychedelic journey deep into the chakra
4.3.98 full show - LINK - generally regarded as the best show of the run
4.3.98 Run Like An Antelope - LINK shoutout to Marco Esqondolas
4.3.98 Roses Are Free - LINK Phish takes the Ween anthem out for only the 2nd time and what a ride it is. Strap in for the performance of a lifetime, particularly by one Jon Fishman.
4.3.98 Tweezer Reprise - LINK Prime example of Trey Anastasio at the top of his powers #GOAT
4.4.98 Ghost - LINK the first Ghost in a year chocked full of top tier versions
4.4.98 2001 - LINK a blistering passage thru Deodato's disco deity, one not far removed from the lauded Great Went's "almost as funky as James Brown on his worst night" extravaganza.
4.4.98 Birds of a Feather - LINK Phish debuts a hot one. The rare case of the debut possibly being the best version played.
4.5.98 YEM - LINK an example of just how fricking consistent this tour is. Incredible.
4.5.98 Cavern - LINK GOAT version of a classic, as the funk yet again appears in a radically reworked take, complete with different lyrics (I TURNED THE BLADE BACK ON THE BITCH AND DROPPED HER THE DUNG)

Almost started a thread about this earlier. Not a bad moment in any of those shows.

Also you left off one of my favorite moments from the run...
The Tweezer>Taste from 4/4 is really good, but the end of Taste is just incredible.

I left some off for others to contribute... agreed on the Taste. 97/98 Taste peaks are some Grade A Trey. See the aforementioned version along with 12.30.97 (my fave) and 7.22.97

So much fun.
Definitely my favorite run of phish shows i saw.
Providence lot was a good time.
Tickets were everywhere for nassua, miracles galore.
Stage crashing tigger took things up a notch.

This is currently making me happy...
The 2001 from this show is quite possibly their best...
