I don't see the money pit thing. It's not bad if you buy a quality brand, keep it covered while not in use, and know how to service the engine.

Change the oil, check the lube levels for the lower foot, always drain the water from the engine before winter storage. If you have basic mechanic skills it's easy. Mine has a 400 hp inboard/outboard that's easy to maintain. Oil filter on top of engine, plug on the side. To winterize it you unscrew 2 plugs and put an air hose on a valve stem to force the water out of the engine
