I don't get why so many people hate this movie, this is one I watch anytime it comes on. It's so unique.

A lot of fans of the comic certainly led the charge. To an extent, I get the principle. I've seen movies that were horridly adapted from the source material, but 9 times out of 10, these movies would have been terrible even if they hadn't been bad adaptations. "Watchmen" is simply a very good movie regardless of how well it matches the source material, and while I haven't read the comics, some of the changes I've heard being bitched about by the comic lovers actually sound like real improvements. Honestly, I don't care what the subtext surrounding the whole alien thing was. I'm sure it was insightful and brilliant in the comics, but it sounds ridiculous as a cinematic choice for the movie we got. Changing it to an Ozymandias/Manhattan plot in the movie worked just fine. Honestly, there are just going to be some people who wouldn't accept anything less than a 20 hour film with the workprint sent to them for critique before the movie was released so they could tell the director exactly how badly he fricked up and killed all that is good and decent in the world.
The only change I heard the comic fans ranting about that I actually agreed sounded like a valid point was a single line of dialogue that was moved to a different character and scene.
