That McCarthy piece is weird. He also implies that pleading targets down in exchange for information on other targets is somehow against DOJ code.

The McCarthy piece is only weird if you think of him as a dispassionate legal expert. If you think of him as a hack pretending to forget every view he held on surveillance law, prosecutorial power, or Trump himself prior to 2017 in order to put the most professional possible spin on whatever Trump farts onto Twitter that morning, it makes perfect sense.
