I get his point... Mark andrews can’t block, DG hasn’t seen a lot of real competition and people question his blocking, Hayden Hurst is old so is he really worth the value, the one that doesn’t have a glaring weakness is MG from Penn State I think he is the real deal long term.

The thing that worries me about Gesicki is that no one seemed to have a first or even second round grade on this guy before the Combine. The walterfootball.com website compared him to Coby Fleener.

walterfootball.com/Mike Gesiski profile

Here's what nfl.com has on his AFTER the Combine in terms of his weaknesses:

quote:

WEAKNESSES Built more like a high-jumper than a tight end. Long and lanky with a stride length that limits quickness in and out of breaks. Will struggle to shake coverage on short routes near the line of scrimmage. Play strength is below average. Needs to prove he can handle physical jams and route redirection. Can be slow to get head around and find the ball. Passive approach as blocker puts run plays in immediate peril. Hand usage is poor in run game. Rarely sustains blocks against legitimate edge talent.

DRAFT PROJECTION Round 2

NFL COMPARISON Tyler Higbee

BOTTOM LINE If you are looking for a tight end who can line up and help in the running game, he's not your guy. However, if you want a pass-catcher who can get open and has the ball skills to win against linebackers and safeties, he might be your guy. Gesicki needs to improve his play strength and his issues as a blocker could limit the amount of teams who will target him, but he has a chance to become one of the better pass catching tight ends in the league.

Also fwiw, neither Kiper nor McShay have Gesicki going in round 1

I'd rather see us set good value in round 1 and get a TE in round 3.
