Holy shite this is an amazing game. I never played Dark Souls because the fantasy stuff didn't appeal to me, but I picked up The Surge (very similar gameplay) a while back and fell in love with the difficulty and reward of the game type. Still didn't wanna play a fantasy game so I picked up BB and am finally starting it.
The Gothic setting is so awesome. It reminds me a lot of the Worgen starting area in WoW and that was always one of my favorites.
This game is so much more in depth and intricate with your character building than The Surge was. I'm loving it.
I've only beaten the first 3 bosses so far, but the difficulty has been fun but not as punishing as The Surge was. That may just be because The Surge was my first forray into this genre, but who knows. I'm not complaining because I'm still having a blast. The party system and Visceral attacks are so satisfying.
I'm sad I waited this long to get into this hardcore RPG genre. It's my jam.

Bloodborne is the best game of this generation. You haven’t seen shite yet, and I’m jealous you’re experiencing it for the first time. Quite the rabbit hole.
You really owe it to yourself to play the Dark Souls Remaster coming in May. Best game of last generation, and the best interconnected game world of all time. I’m not a fantasy guy either outside of GOT, it’s a very different take on it. Very dark

I play most games on medium to easy just because I don't want to spend the time. I beat bloodborne and loved it.

This will seal it for me. I just haven't wanted to venture back into the dark days of the 360 to play it.

Didn't do much tonight after I took down BSB.
Went back to try and get an item in the rafters of the Old Yharnam Cathedral, but can't figure out the jump.
Went into the Cathedral Ward and ended up getting KO'd by some big fricker with a bag and woke up in a jail cell. I busted the frick out, went upstairs, and go smoked by two more big frickers with bags.
By the time I got fed up with those asswhoopings it was time for bed.
Tomorrow is a new day. Those sack handlers shall perish at the hands of my ultra stylish Hunter and his Cane Whip/Top Hat combo.
EDIT - Oh and earlier today I totally climbed a tower to kill some fricker with a chain gun, and he ended up juking himself off the ledge to his death.

I REALLY want to like this game..I just get so frustrated and get tired of dying and going over and over in the same spot, but I guess I'm gonna see if third time is the charm for me, I think I am at Father Gascoigne right now, died several times and then just put the game away again a few months back

I beat it this morning.
Two bosses in the dlc are no joke. In fact, after defeating the final dlc boss this morning, I defeated the final boss on my first attempt. I was prepared.
I really want to try a new build now. Maybe arcane because I basically ignored that stat this time around.

Yeah that's only the beginning.
What level are You? Make sure you're not underpowered. I went into that fight around level 20 I think. I spent a lot of time practicing my parries and Visceral attacks before I went in so that I was prepared. It was a challenging fight, but I got him on the first go.
The Cleric Beast on the bridge fricked me up a few times, though. ??

This is how it was for me in The Surge. The final DLC boss in that game was a HUGE bitch that I died countless times on. By the time I finished with him I was prepared for everything the regular game threw at me and one tried the final boss.

Two slightly off topic posts:
For anyone who loves this type of game but wants a different setting I can't recommend The Surge enough. It's a sci-fi setting where you play a guy in an echo suit that you can upgrade and change the rigs out on. It's way more forgiving as far as character build goes because while you level the exo suit traditionally, you don't put points into traditional stats. Instead, you have so many modification slots you can swap and change as many times as you want to play with different builds without having to start a whole new character. Also, swapping pieces of armor effects your speed and attack power, so you can customize your playstyle there, too. Also, it has a limb targeting system that allows you to sever a specific limb with VERY satisfying kill animations that I never got bored of. The story is way less fleshed out, but still interesting enough to keep your attention. The fun in this game is really in the kills, though.
Second, Nier: Automata is finally on sale for $30 on the PS Store for anyone who's been holding off on that one. I haven't started it yet, but it's waiting for me now.

Just noticed an opening about halfway up the elevator that opens up in the Cathedral Ward after you beat BSB. I was able to get off the elevator even though it didn't stop there and walked around to find a chest with another Rune in it.
God, I live stuff like this in games. I know I miss more than I find, but when you catch a secret like that it just feels so good.

Recently started this myself. Also my first journey into Souls games. I’m a little further ahead of you, but it’s awesome to read that someone else is also starting the Souls journey.
I was so confused at the beginning that I had to start over three times. I spent two hours karate chopping everyone before realizing how to equip my weapons.

I'm jelly you are getting to play this for the first time. Pretty sure I'm on NG++++. Haven't played it in months, but this thread is making me want to pick it back up.

I’m glad to see the positivity about this game. It’s free on ps plus and I downloaded it last week. I’m looking forward to starting it now.

I've gotta stop summoning the helpers for boss fights. It turns them all into jokes.
But goddamn my helper died halfway through Darkbeast Paarl and that became a helluva bitch.
