That was exactly my point.. using someone else's platform to talk about what you personally deem important is the definition of selfish.

Well, he's the one on TV and at the podium. He's the one with a microphone in his face. That part is his platform. That's what he was using to let his voice be heard.

This is a very ignorant statement. It's not his platform it's the NFL/owners'. Hence the fact he isn't signed right now might be due to the fact that they don't want him 'with a microphone in his face, on TV and at the podium'. He might of been at the platform for a second, but does that mean he owns the platform? not at all..

Ok then, we can go that route. He went against 32 owners to speak up for an entire race of people he thought were being treated unfairly. I'm sure he knew it would have ramifications on his career. That would be extremely unselfish in my book.
As long as that camera is pointed at him or that microphone is on his face, that's his stage. What he does obviously has consequences. So, in those moments, that is absolutely his platform.

And this is the problem with their protest IMO. The Flag and National Anthem are symbols and mean diff things to diff people.
I agree with this 100%. I personally don’t care if anyone kneels during the anthem. It isn’t something that I would choose to do, but it doesn’t enrage me to see others do it. I also believe Kaepernick when he says that he doesn’t mean it as a sign of disrespect for veterans. He really didn’t intend it that way. With that said, he is completely out of touch with huge segments of America if he didn’t understand how some folks would interpret his actions. The whole protest is incredibly inefficient and has really just led to different parts of America talking past one another.

and he has every right to do so. At the same time those 32 owners, as well as the American people, have every right to disagree with his 'consensus', which as you have noted is impossible to come by.

Unselfish in terms of courageousness absolutely. In other terms not quite. By kneeling for the flag what is he actually accomplishing, awareness? sure, but that's about it. In terms of monetary contributions, as most impoverished communities would acclaim money supported towards 'poor' people are the most supportive, his kneeling (reducing his funds) ultimately reduces the amount he as to ACTUALLY contribute towards impoverished communities. Therefore, him kneeling actually reduces his solution to solving the problem. How again is that not selfish?

Wrong again. The stage belongs more to advertisers than to anyone else. Do you even read?

The very worst advice you could give a young person today, is to tell them to embrace Identity Politics, Race Grievance and External Locus Of Control Psychology. It’s all a recipe for personal unhappiness and societal chaos .
Encouraging your child to be a Progressive is like encouraging him to be any other Ideological Fundamentalist that offers cartoon answers to the big issues in life. It’s like encouraging your kid to be a Fundamentalist Muslim, or a Scientologist or a Communist . It takes you farther away from the pursuit of Truth in favor of a belligerent narrative that is based on resentment and grievance towards your fellow Americans. That’s what Eric Reid is doing, he’s encouraging people to take a path that will make their lives infinitely harder.
So spare me me all the lectures on courage and “standing up”. He’s asking people to ignore the PROVEN path to success in America ( Family, Education, Hard work, Personal Responsibility, respecting the Rule of Law) in favor of Fundamentalist Progressivism that is a repudiation of everything necessary for normal people to succeed.
He’s selling snake oil. Any parent with any sense would tell their kid to steer clear of what he’s peddling, as much as drugs, alcohol or any other thing that keeps you further away from the pursuit of Truth.

That was their goal. It wasn't to raise money for poverty or anything like that. Basically, your last post further supported my stance.

And what is the purpose of awareness without the resources to properly correct the situation? Raise money how exactly?
As with the last few posts your intelligence has surely proven your inadequate understanding of the dilemma.

Wow. Ok. Last post on this subject because you're just lost.
Kap started the protest because he thought people of color were not being treated equally, especially by police. The only thing it had to do with money is the fact that in his eyes the people being affected were impoverished and didn't have a voice. His mission was to change the way those people were being treated, not to change their environment.
As a result of his protest the president of the United States held multiple town hall meetings on TV and police departments in multiple cities were out in their communities trying to better understand how they could serve better.
I'm not sure where your idea of money equating to the success of the protest is coming from. The awareness of the treatment of people and that opportunity to change that across the nation is FAR greater than any money he could donate. By the way, Kap is one of the most philanthropic pro athletes in the nation.

Maybe they could “ raise awareness “ that family is the key to success, since both Reid and Kaepernick had great parents? Maybe they could address the social pathologies created by 80% black out of wedlock birth ? Maybe they could talk about the effect that this colossal failure is having on the country, how it contributes to so many lost children and ruined lives ? Maybe they could talk about anger resolution and low frustration tolerance and all these characteristics that typify these communities that contribute to all these incidents.
Instead they give us Cultural Marxism, repudiation of American Principles, Traditions, Ideals and Institutions and the GIGANTIC LIE that they can achieve real meaning in their lives through Fundamentalist Progressivism. SJW Orthodoxy is a destructive Fundamentalism for moral idiots. The more people listen to the infantile Garbage in/ Garbage out philosophical musings of Eric Reid the harder they are making their own lives.

My only point of even getting involved in the conversation was to say Reid wasn't selfish and that got turned into some sort of money thing. I don't get into politics and don't really care to get into the political conversation about it.

It is also an accentuated position that people of 'color' which he supports are being mistreated. In most cases the fault comes on a committed crime or felony. In most scenarios a lack of proper education = poverty = crime. In order to fix this, you have to change the environment starting with education which costs money. You act as if I don't understand the situation. What is the purpose of raising awareness if you don't intend to actually correct the problem? In this scenario his actions are indeed selfish and probably just for personal attention, to feel the personal gratification as if he was 'helping.

no amount of state rights justify that.

They killed 750,000 young men in the prime of their lives and had to invent a reason for it other than the real reason which was to continue to rape the South financially
traitors to the US flag and the U.S.

holy shite.
So its ok to kill US service men if you're standing up for what you believe in but ER And CK doing a peaceful protest is horrible?

The most successful people I've ever seen in my life steered clear of politics. It ruins careers.
Remember, when you make a political "statement" , u piss off half the country.
