I'm trying to choose between these two laptops at Costco:

Intel i7-7500u

Intel i5-8250u

The 8th generation quad core is a better processor but the 7th generation dual core has a better screen (IPS 1080), more ram and a better graphics card.

A little background info: I work from home (CPA work), so this is basically a desktop replacement. The main features I want are a 17" screen and a touchpad with actual buttons, which is surprisingly difficult to find. I mainly use it for the internet, Excel, Word, Quickbooks and tax programs, no games. These two are the best I've found under $750, but I'm open to other suggestions. I'd appreciate any advice y'all could give. Thanks

For $700? Neither.

If you have to get one of the two, I'd get the i5 model 10000000000x over the i7

Having an SSD should be your top priority. I'd get this laptop (even has a 10% off coupon to make it $630) or this laptop over both of those

Any particular reason for a 17 inch screen on the laptop itself rather than physically docking to a larger monitor (or casting to a 4k TV/big monitor for that matter)? 17 inch laptops definitely not an area where a lot of effort seems to be made to offer up a quality machine at a good value. Would seemingly be better to look at a 15 inch laptop and external monitor to get best value IMO.

For just $50 more, I'd definitely get the Intel i7-7500u.
