I don’t think it can be understated the effect this trial had on America. From creating a racial divide, to introducing the world to the Kardashians, to aiding the rise of 24/7 cable news. Everything associated with that trial was poison to this country.

I really don’t think 99.9% of people understand how much OJ has shaped society. You can go back on my post history and see, but I repeatably brought up that Trump would be elected and this is the OJ Simpson trial repeating itself. Trump could not have won in a pre-OJ society. It’s a case of the media gone horribly wrong, and that media also censored Bernie Sanders in favor of Hillary, but let Trump’s rallies air unedited with no commercials.

OJ ruined the country forever and I think should be killed for it. The media cycle that glorifies killers in a never ending cycle? That’s OJ’s doing. Shitty reality TV? Thank you OJ. The narcissism that is the Internet? All on you OJ. Black Lives Matter and white privilege? Come on out OJ. A celebrity running for President? Obama couldn’t have done it before OJ. When OJ killed Ron and Nicole, he killed the country, or at least made us braindead.

Honestly the day he dies should be a national celebration and the President should address the people and say that there’s going to be a big parade down Time’s Square. OJ Simpson is debatably the single worst citizen this country has ever produced and he should be remembered as such. May he die as soon as possible and I hope to desecrate his grave one day. Definitely on the bucket list.

Your posts are sometimes very interesting to read but when you lose perspective you really run off the rails.

FWIW I agree with you that OJ is a horrible guy that killed two people. His celebrity trial probably did substantially amplify racial animus but that's about the end of where I can find common ground. Judge Ito alone might have prevented what harm the OJ trial caused simply by preventing the trial from being our first major reality television event.

Los Angeles was already a seething cauldron. There clearly were problems within the Los Angeles police department and there clearly were problems with both severe crime and urban blight that impacted the way even a better police force would have been able to act. The Rodney King and Reginald Denny beatings were very fresh on people's minds. Race riots in multiple cities around the country had happened in prior decades. OJ didn't create any of that.

The 24/7 news cycle was already pumping. Celebrity obsession with killers was already present (Manson, Patty Hearst, and Son of Sam were already household names). OJ didn't create that obsession.

The roots of Black Lives Matter, White Privilege, the substitution of race for class as primary indices of oppression to rail against were already being institutionalized in universities around the country. The misbehavior of major intellectuals in this area is something for them to be called to account for - not OJ.

The trial also highlighted terrible aspects of the American legal system that OJ can hardly be blamed for - nor his lawyers be blamed for in his case any more than the many other cases they represented before OJ. The system does suck and produce highly unequal results on the basis of how good the respective lawyers are for each party. It also should have highlighted the danger of allowing the unfettered right of the press to interfere with the right of the accused and the aggrieved parties to a fair and speedy trial. But OJ didn't create any of that either.

Pretty big reaches, especially the narcissism on the internet, I'm not sure how you even come up with a connection to OJ there
