Has anyone had any experience with this?

I have an older vehicle that I plan on refurbishing as a hobby. No major mechanical issues with the vehicle but it could use some TLC. Was also thinking of installing a more modernized "head unit" as some people call it.

Wouldn't be quite as simple as just putting the stereo in since this communicate's with the car's computer as well.

I see they do make several for this vehicle. I need to replace it anyway even if it's with OEM parts because the LEDs are getting too dim to read on the display.

Anyone successfully done something like this?

Usually there is an adapter harness that facilitates that communication between the head unit and the vehicle's computer.

What kind of vehicle?

Way to contribute to global warming by not driving an electric car.

That appears to be the case here as well

I'd probably still screw it up

According to crutchfield, you need about $100 worth of harnesses to maintain all functionality.

ETA: I love that actual facts get downvoted just because I'm the one who posts them.

I'm not driving this one at all at the moment

I actually reserved a Model 3 but cancelled the reservation because they were taking too long and it looked like too much of a bait and switch scenario to me (which it wound up being)

Just put one in my jeep a couple years ago. Got mine from crutchfield. You can search their site for compatible units and they will include the correct wire harness and brackets to fit the car. Can't remember if the harness and brackets were extra. Not sure if you have looked at their site

Until now I haven't

I've seen some on ebay that look like they are designed more specifically for that vehicle but I question the quality given the low price point

It’s been a few years since I’ve used them, but crutchfield magazine was really good for shite like this

But your products from them, and they walk you through the process if you have trouble

I thought you were an electrical engineer or something like that?

It is literally just a harness you unplug and plug in.

It is just a harness

Was curious about other things also like quality, how it looks/fits or different brand recs if anyone may have had some

Crutchfield is a good starting place. Amazon has also stepped it up lately. I ordered a Pioneer for my 2004 TJ from Amazon. Previous owner had recently put a new Sony in there, but it didn't have satellite or Bluetooth. Just a basic CD player with AM/FM and an Aux input on the face of it. Just get the right sleeve or adapter to mount it in the dash, and the right harness and you can do this in under an hour. Think about other things while you're doing it, like in my case I ran a 10 foot USB extension from the back of mine under the carpet and into the console so I can plug in any phone to it.

You can. You need to find out if your car is equipped with the MOST network. Then it's an easy call.
