Cost us $1000 to have this old sucker cut down yesterday here in KC. It was rotten on back side. We were afraid it would fall on the house near it.

I feel like you might have been ripped off. Have never paid that much for a tree to come down and they not dispose of it. I just had 10 trees dropped on my property for $3,200, three of which were HUGE poplars (two of them were in excess of 80 feet tall). They disposed of the trees, ground the stumps, filled in trenches made by their equipment and spread new grass seed.

I did pay $1,200 for a single pine once (another big arse tree), but he disposed of it, too. And after pricing out more jobs over the years, I realized he overcharged me.

That said, there are a lot of variables to pricing a tree removal.

what size tree?
What's the location?
Is it completely dead or just being removed for other reasons?
What type of tree?

It's not a one-size-fits-all deal getting a tree cut.
