re: Is the 1998 LSU Football Season the Most Disappointing in its History?

And you’d be wrong, I met Gerry Dinardo a couple times while he was HC here and I really like the man. Anyone who followed LSU back then knew the 98 team was in trouble. The defense had very little talent and the offense was good but Herb wasn’t the kind of QB that could win shootouts. The worries turned into reality way before the losses as Idaho ran up and down the field on us during an early season win. After that game those of us who actually witnessed that era and paid attention to football knew it was going to be a long season.

I was referring to Miles. You clearly hate him, my comment on page 1 i said people would not say 98 or some other previous season because they’d rather bash Miles

Dedense had plenty of talent: Anthony McFarland, Jarvis Green, Johnny Mitchell, Clarence LeBlanc, Raion Hill, Mark Roman, Ryan Clark, Lionel Thomas, Jeremy Lawrence, Joe Wesley, Arnold Miller, Kenderick Allen. We were somewhat weak at DB in 1998 but had great safeties. Our DL was very good. Our LBs were average. I wouldn't go as far to say they had "very little" talent. They had no less talent than the 1997 team, and our defense wasn't a liability in 1997. But at the end of the day, regardless of how talented you think the defense was or wasn't, there was flat out no reason for them to be as bad as they were. We gave up over 275 yards passing a game and over 400 yards total per game. It was arguably the worst defense in LSU history and it certainly was not the least talented in LSU history, far from it.

didn't they have 460+ on offense?
