Has anyone ever had to get a felony expunged to get your gun right back for a non violent crime? If so what are the steps....Asking for a friend.

Depends on the state you live in, and no matter what the state does the feds don't restore gun rights. Here in Texas you can petition for your rights back after seven years from end of sentence.

Depends on if it's one of those evil assault rifles.

I believe a governors pardon will do the trick but I’m not sure the steps to take or how much it will cost.

Imo you shouldn't lose them for a non violent crime.

ETA - especially for possession of a plant

If you can't obey the law, you don't deserve certain things.

893 gets it expunged. Gun rights are restored after 10 yrs of end of probation/parole.... Unless you did one of them crimes they added to the list a few years ago. Drug dealing/Simple Burglary and a few other non violent crimes were added to the list that denies firearms reinstatement.

You can go to the Louisiana pardon board for it. It's a relatively simple application. They have scheduled sessions for hearings. Recommend you get an attorney to take wit you as well as some character letters and respected persons to come speak in your behalf.

Google the results of these pardon hearing. They're public. You can get a feel for what they will grant and deny.

I knew a guy that helped his friend "borrow" his stepdad's 12' flat boat. Step dad pressed charges, 17 year charged as an adult. He got a felony. Never was allowed to buy a gun and was lied to and told they had permission to get the boat. They didn't even keep it, it was returned the next day.

I think some felons should get their gun rights back.
