My family started watching this show on Hulu out of curiosity just this week, and four episodes in we're hooked.
Kind of a less bleak 12 Monkeys, with more appealing lead characters...obviously, as with all time travel/alternate universe shows, you have to completely suspend disbelief (i.e., subtle changes in the past would have MAJOR effects on specific individuals, usually of an existential nature) and there were a few painfully obvious anachronisms (I am absolutely certain there weren't any opulent V2 watching parties where a castle full of elegantly dressed guests of the Reich sipped Dom Perignon and feasted on pate in December 1944)...but as escapist fantasy involving historical events and people, it's pretty damn entertaining.
I also find myself enjoying Rufus. Manages to get how much race relations have changed over time without bashing you over the head with it, and he either delivers or is the subject of most of the best lines. And Abigail Spencer's Lucy is perfectly cast - as the OP says, she's "suprisingly attractive", but not so obviously out of place as the sort of woman who would end up as a historian. Kind of like Gillian Anderson was more believable as a doctor-turned-FBI agent than the classic blonde beauty pageant types that the network wanted as Scully.
Glad it got renewed, looking forward to watching all the episodes

Episodes two and three were enjoyable. Really liked the gang going back to old Hollywood and saving Citizen Kane. A little disappointed we didn't get to see Orson Welles.
Wyatt and Lucy tho
