No they didn't... If you can't afford to supplement or just don't want to, then pass it on to someone else or sell it online. They probably thought that was a place the OP already goes to, so that would offset the cost of one of their visits.

This was my thinking.
OP, you weren't expecting anything from this person anyway. If you don't go to RC and don't want to go to RC, then just don't use the gift card. I don't see what's so hard about that.
