My question is what exactly will happen to these manufacturers (particularly Ford and GM) when the economy slows just a little and high priced trucks and SUV sales collapse? Neither company has a big lineup of affordable cars. They are both pushing "big and expensive" vehicles for obvious reasons.
They'll get a bailout from the government. Because they have learned nothing.
Also, cars have gotten bigger. You can get a Kia Forte for much cheaper than you could get an Accord back in the day. "Compacts" like that have grown to be the size of the Accords/Camry's of 15/20 years ago.
And 60-70k for a half ton pickup? GTFO. I'll never spend that kind of money. The F150 averages 13k inn profit--and that includes the bare bones models. What's that say? There's a damn sucker born every minute.
I bought a 99 XLT with a V6, manual transmission, and extra cab for 18k. What's going on today is bat shite crazy and I hope it implodes on them.
