I see it everyday in gym.... people working out, and not even sweating! If your not exerting enough energy to sweat, your not doing it right!
Also, I see some doing the strangest, unorthodox, non productive exercises... wasting time. They should stick to the basic exercises until they progress.
Consistency is the MOST important factor.. One has to be willing to put in the work, the weights never lie! You only get back what your willing to put in.
If all above is in check, guess its what your after, how important it is to you.

quote:
What is going on? Poor workout technique? Diabeetus? Genetics?
Context would help. But, honestly, people like you are a lot of people hate going to gyms.

Diet is more important than exercise

I've been going to the gym for about a month now. I feel stronger but have mostly maintained my weight and appearance. I'm about 1-2lbs overweight according to BMI, and it's mostly concentrated around my belly. I feel like it's partly genetics, but my metabolism has really slowed in the last couple of years.
I never ate a lot but I used to be able to consume junk food like a garbage disposal and remain skinny as a rail. I think it's a combination of age and some medication slowing my metabolism down.
I probably don't stay in the gym long enough or do enough exercises. Three days a week I do bicep curl, chest press, lateral pulldown, and seated row followed by a brisk treadmill walk for about 10 minutes and jogging for 5.

I just want to eat good with couple of bad meals i crave and not look fat or obese. I go to gym just to keep my current weight and feel comfortable in my clothes.
What is the meaning of life if you cannot indulge in food. Food has been main source of indulgence for mankind over the years.
The other day my mom said "In our generation, we lived to eat. Now we eat to live"
I do not care about my six packs nor do my wife
