I think it's a pretty significant situation every time these kids are getting killed at school, would you say the same if it was your niece or nephew or your children

You're talking about emotional significance. I'm not.

I'll answer anyway, in the interest of discussion. That would be significant to me, but I wouldn't expect over 7 billion others to find it significant. It's tragic for those families, but it's not something that should be used to make changes to who we are. Do you weep every single time someone dies? Do you wail for measures to stop those events? No. Why not?

I got robbed once while in Japan. So everyone should listen to me, as I am an expert on Japanese foreign relations.

See how dumb that sounds?


being emotionally close to the situation, actually makes you a LESS credible voice with regards to policy.

I prefer to entertain policy conversations with people who study the issues involved.
