Most people I know who “hate” Baton Rouge fit into one of 4 molds:

They have family here they want to get away from that they feel compelled to visit. A lot of people hate the places they grew up because they have a love/hate relationship with their parents. That is true about literally every town and city on earth.

They’re from New Orleans and used to having everything fun handed to them. I met so many of these in college. They’d bitch about there being nothing to do, but outside of playing video games in their dorm rooms, the only places they’d go was tigerland or the mall of Louisiana. They just assumed because “Baton Rouge sucks” that there must not be anything else to do. They never even tried to explore the city at all.

They’re from out of state and loath everything about Louisiana culture yet live here anyway. A lot of these people seem to be from Atlanta or Chicago. They see everything as sinful, racist, and trashy and just complain about everything. These people are often social justice warriors that assume everyone is out to get them or “silence” them.

People who grew up in the suburbs and only come into the city for LSU games. They have to fight crazy traffic to come here, and since they don’t participate in anything but LSU sports, they get this warped view that the rest of the city is nothing but a crime infested ghetto where black people will shoot you in the face and then get your daughter pregnant.

BINGO.

Of the 3 people I know that dislike/disliked Baton Rouge.....all were too dull and boring to even try to carve a life out for themselves.

One of them is also a huge sissy that is afraid of encountering a black person. He wouldn't even go to Radio Bar because it was "in a dangerous neighborhood".
