A buddy a I are looking for a spot to start squirrel and rabbit hunting around the Hammond Covington are. Neither of us have been mush into small game and have no knowledge of the rules and regulations of the WMA's any tips or info that can help? Joyce VS Pearl River. Where can you hunt once inside the management area. Any tips with help! Thanks!

Joyce is all swamp. Good luck with that....not for the faint of heart from everything I’ve ever heard about that place. Pearl River is pretty easy to walk around. Make sure you buy your WMA permit and sign in and out at the check in station at the entrance. Only bring weapons that are legal for small game. There’s also Lake Ramsey WMA in Covington.

Is Resident Basic Hunt and WMA Permit the only requirement for small game? Will be shooting 410.

There are very few rabbits in the Pearl River WMA. The squirrel population is good though.

Just read the regs, both generally for squirrel and rabbit seasons as well as the wma specific regs for each place. All you need is small game license and wma license, but you'll also likely need to fill out a wma self clearing permit upon entry to the wma. It's free and you deposit half of the form upon entry (they'll have copies at the checkin station) and carry the other half on you.

I'd try Pearl River or the woods in Sandy Hollow. You will need a WMA permit to hunt, which is $15.
