Brief Conference Rundown
FloRugby has a short summary about the Red River Conference matches this past weekend. Here’s the LSU/ Red River South write up.

quote:

Meanwhile, the South was thrown for a loop when LSU beat Texas A&M 17-10. Brennan Falcon, John Ruocco, and Aidan Elias scored tries to stake the Tigers to a 17-5 first-half lead, and they held on from there. The Aggies drop to 4-1 as a result and LSU is now 3-0. However, a previously cancelled game against Texas is now slated for a crucial makeup game on Feb. 24.

The Longhorns beat Houston 43-14 and sit 4-1, just a couple of standings points behind A&M. Next week’s LSU at Texas game could be a Red River South decider.

My next update will come when FloRugby releases their weekly rankings. LSU should expect a hefty bump up from #27 after taking care of #19 Texas A&M.

Well, it looks like LSU did not get near the rankings boost as I expected. The Tigers only jumped 2 spots to #25.

Here are the current FloRugby D1 Rankings.
FloRugby Top 40

And the D1A Recap
quote:

Red River conference play continued with one surprise as Oklahoma handed Baylor its first loss of the season, winning 40-29. In Lubbock Texas, Arkansas defeated Texas Tech 59-30. The race to the top of Red River South got a little more interesting with LSU knocking off Texas A&M 17-10. Texas beat Houston to stay in the mix in the South, so now Texas and Texas A&M sit at 4-1 while LSU is 3-0.

The only teams they jumped were fellow conference foes that lost, A&M and Baylor. This cements the likelihood that the Red River will only have one team make the playoff again this year. LSU is still essentially atop the Red River as the lone team undefeated in conference and highest rank at #25. However, the margin is slim this year with Texas A&M and Baylor sitting at #26 and #27 respectively.

Baylor has already clinched the Red River North and will play the South champion which is boiling down to LSU, A&M, and sleeper Texas. LSU can knock Texas out of the race with a win in Austin this upcoming weekend.

This is a potential trap game for the Tigers with a rematch against a fierce Aggie team coming up the following week. UT is currently sitting at 4-1 with their lone loss coming against A&M back in November. Hopefully LSU will be able to take care of business and retain their unblemished record.

eta: This ranking is FloRugby's D1A Rankings which ranks their top 40 teams that play in college rugby's highest division, D1A.
