Why has no one mentioned that the vast majority of people on SNAP are either elderly or have full time employment? Or should we act to make life more difficult for the thousands of military personnel currently recieving SNAP benefits?
Reality is programs like SNAP are a small percentage of the federal budget. If you reduced SNAP to zero you would not significantly reduce federal expenditures, but you would create more crime.

I used to think like a lot of people on this board but after doing some volunteer work at my church, I learned a lot more about "the system" including food stamps, social security, medicaid and medicare. It's typically not the "sexy" examples of the welfare queen exploiting the system and driving around in a 40K car
More often than not, the food stamp recipient is an older person who is on social security , or their late husband's social security and they don't cheat the system and they need the help. Or a single mother who works. The amount of deadbeats is actually very much a minority.
It also might surprise a lot of people to know that the vast amount of people on medicaid are the children of working class families both white and black. The parents have insurance through work, but if they added the kids, they could not make ends meet, and if they had an emergency and had to pay a deductible, it would be financially devastating.
It's seldom black and white
