To me this is the biggest misnomer about phone prices. No one realizes that all those iphones they were buying for 199-299 were all subsidized prices. I don't remember what the real price was but I wouldn't be surprised if it was 750 or higher at least.

Actually the original iPhone was $399 (4gb) non-subsidized. I was mistaken on the $299. It was originally $499 then Apple dropped the price $100 and gave a bunch of people store credit after they complained.
