The proposal, new in the White House fiscal 2019 budget, is for families to receive some of their benefits “in the form of a USDA Foods package, which would include items such as shelf-stable milk, ready-to-eat cereals, pasta, peanut butter, beans and canned fruit, vegetables, and meat, poultry or fish.”
Taking advantage of the existing logistics chains of local grocery stores is always going to be cheaper than the federal government actually trying to create and operate a meal-delivery service from scratch.

The problem is assuming ahead of time that the government should be in the feeding business to begin with. If they must, then let's give them either a set list of items they can purchase for free or give them the things directly. Doesn't matter to me which.

Know how long you can feed your family on rice and beans? A long arse time.

NB4 everyone on this board that has repeatedly said that private industry is always better than the government at getting shite done efficiently, tells you you're wrong.

True, but I'm willing to bet it could cut down on fraud on the part of the grocery stores as well as the amount wasted on junk food.

Contract the program to WalMart if supply chain efficiency is a concern.
