lol and you got all up in my shite for wanting Grimes replaced.
Cregg is a very good hire. May be looking back and using the word excellent in the future, but that is TBD.
Grimes was good, but not good enough for what we needed. Period.
Cregg is more of a complete package, for lack of a better term. And his strength is where Grimes was weakest in my opinion.
He is adept at noting weaknesses in a OL (as a squad) and quickly either coaching the weakness out of the player and/or compensating. Grimes just wasn't fast enough. The first 4-5 games his OLs were always still finding their groove/gel/mix.
In college, for better or worse, by the start of fall camp you better have 7 OL pretty much lined up, communicating, and gelled (your depth has to function like a starter or the squad falls apart, at times). Then in fall camp you can pick apart the individuals and make adjustments.

I liked Grimes and still do. It was said that his biggest hindrance was the former coaches influence, including the types of players he recruited.
I think Grimes more than showed his worth this year. Saahdiq Charles was the first true freshman O-line to start the season for LSU since WWII. Charles and Ingram started the majority of the season and Deculus played also.
It's not like they were absolute world-beaters but for the youth on the line I thought they/he did an excellent job.
Hopefully as you say the new guy will really be that much better of an O-line coach. It will make a world of difference for the other offensive players.

if we are dominant in the trenches with a great d and real qb play, we have a good chance every game
