After my "hippie" friend got kidnapped by two good ole boys in North Carolina when his van broke down and he was hitchhiking to get to the nearest town, he was taken to one of the good ole boys' house and for 3 days they beat him, cut off all his hair with a razor and made him recite verses from the Bible all the time telling him that they were going to kill him and dump his body in a ravine where they had dumped the bodies of other "hippies".
When my friend pleaded with them not to kill him because he had a wife his kidnappers told him he was lying because "hippies" don't get married.
My friend continued to plead for his life telling them his wife was back at his van waiting for him.
Finally, the kidnappers told him that they would take him back to his van but if his wife wasn't there then they would kill him for lying to them.
Fortunately for my friend, when they got back to his van his wife was still there waiting for him.
Upon seeing his wife, the kidnappers opened the car door and told him to get out and start running.
That's exactly what he did all the time thinking they were going to shoot him in the back before he could get to safety.
However, they didn't shoot him and that is how he escaped.
Yeah, "hippies" weren't treated similar to how blacks were treated.
