Not copied off of Mobile, but a Mobilian came to New Orleans and started it.
Cowbellion de Rakin comes from the fact that one of its founders owned a hardware/general store.
To this day, the Comus ball sounds like a Moo State game because of the cowbells. Watching snooty uptowners ringing cow bells is kind of ridiculous, which is the point of Mardi Gras.
