And assume if only one beer or other alcoholic drink is had during this detox period

You’ve got to detox before you retox

a few days, cold sweats and shitty sleep for 3-4 days. of course depending on how much you were drinking before going cold turkey

Alcohol detox can kill you so as much as I hate to say it, drink a few beers if you're not going to a medical detox facility.

Depends on your daily consumption.
For me, it was 4 days. But i was the heaviest of drinkers, drinking (literally) 24 hours a day.
For most, a couple days

If you drink a considerable amount of alcohol daily and have for a while I strongly suggest you seek medical attention before going cold turkey. Acute alcohol detox can be dangerous. Get some help and good luck

When did you sleep? (Literally)

As stated above, don’t do this cold turkey if you are a consistent heavy drinker. Detox seizures can and will kill you.

I didnt sleep. I passed out, woke up long enough to take a drink or two, and passed out again.

Dude. "Shakes" is symptom #1 of the 4 part "you got a real problem called Alcoholism" diagnosis. You are already beyond the I just got a hangover stage.
1) Shakes
2) Seizures
3) Hallucinations
4) Delirium Tremors (aka DT's)
5) Death

Sorta, it was ICU. And come to think of it, i was told by my family they were adding ethanol to my drip to bring me down.
So ignore my 4 day comment

I went to detox. It's actually pretty pleasant. They keep you asleep through the worst of it.

Yea man, need to know your daily intake leading up to this "weaning" you are about to attempt. I am a pro, been through DT's and pancreatitis. Too many relapses too count, but I beat the odds and came out on the other side. Regardless, my advise is go to the ER and be honest with them. They will hook you up with fluids (ask for a banana bag) and Ativan. Probably send you home with some Librium to last a week. If it's really bad ask for some Gabapentin to ward off potential seizures. Probably looking at at least 3 days for the shakes though. Then think about your long term plan, it's way bigger than you. That is provided you really want to quit for good.
