And there's, logically, more evidence for pessimism than optimism.
That’s the rub. Some believe there is and some believe there is not. O was far from a perfect or great coach this year; likewise he was far from horrible. Plenty to debate about this year. Bringing up the hiring process, the years at Ole Miss, bemoaning his age and that he was a position coach advances nothing. It’s all about wins and losses and recruiting.

How can you say it advances nothing? That's his history. Why does a coach's past work mean nothing when it comes to O and Ensminger?
They possess qualities that were responsible for their past results, and those same qualities can potentially hurt LSU's program, right?
People said "oh well he's changed" and yet we can point to things that occurred this year that would indicate he's the same guy that he was before. People are willfully ignoring evidence. For what reason I don't know.

We just hired an OC who hasn't been one for 20 years, regardless of any data, that is not a good look. We have a staff with an extremely high average age. It may be successful, but as of now, it's a bad move. There is literally no way for those to look good.

Bringing up the hiring process,
I think many rant about this so people are aware and we don't do this again. It isn't necessarily negative, it's purposeful. Everyone should be mad about it. Again, this was a bad thing and even the optimistic should be ticked. But they won't be. People wouldn't argue if everyone agreed.

the years at Ole Miss
That's maybe fair. I disagree, but I can understand that people learn and get better. There's also evidence that O does not learn or get better via your next two points....

bemoaning his age
Also fair, for coach O alone. I am concerned, and people should be, about the overall age of the staff. It's fact that creativity and critical thinking can change with age. (Our entire problem with Miles was a deep connection to older offensive philosophies and a resistance to change), that's a real thing.

When you argue about Coach O's influence on the game, it's a very real thing.

And the sell was, "we are a non-meddling coach away from the Championship with our talent level. Coach O is a coach who has learned that not meddling is important. He can win now with our talent by adopting a modern offense, and not limiting strong coordinator hires." That was the pitch. We didn't see a drastic improvement in wins/losses in year 1, recruiting is looking slightly below average, and we are learning yet another offense, because O made a terrible hire for one reason or another. Which shows he does a poor job of evaluating for a "modern offense."
So in terms of the pitch:
1) Win Now - O did not improve wins by 2 or more games
2) Modern Offense - Made a terrible hire
3) Not Meddling - O Meddled
4) Recruiting - We'll call it even to be nice
Every point of the hire was bad. This is why there is pessimism.

he is the most unqualified hire in modern big 6 history.
the last time anyone let ed orgeron make long term decisions at a program it ended in the worst tenure ever at program full of shite tenures.
not a horrible hire?
you have run as many successful sides of the ball as O.
before his hire at lsu, you have run as many successful programs as ed orgeron.
not horrible?
for 29 of his 32 year career no AD THOUGHT ENOUGH OF HIS COACHING TO OFFER HIM EVEN A COORDINATORS JOB.
and the 1 time an ad was dumb enough it ended in the worst win % in ole miss history and the worst in conf win % in ole miss history.
not a horrible hire?
my god
