This is stupid now. 10 Cloverfield lane never needed the Cloverfield part at the end. Apparently these 2 movies may have had scenes added after initial filming to add in Cloverfield as well, according to the article. You can’t just throw the Cloverfield concept in randomly and expect it to work

Looks like that's exactly what they're doing - a film version of Twilight Zone or Black Mirror.
